Prosperity Plant...

I don't know if many people has ever seen this rather unique plant flowering :001_unsure: ... Chinese call it the 'Prosperity Plant' :thumbup1: ... It only blooms completely at 12am :001_tt1: , and fades by the next morning :thumbdown: ... It takes about a month from the time its bud starts forming till the time it blooms!!! But normally, each plant will have about 1 or 2 flowers blooming at the same time... It's very rare to see more than that...

For the first time in my entire life, I've seen 8 flowers blooming at the very same night:drool: :drool: , so here are some pictures I've taken of them.. Not using a good quality camera, so I can't get the whole thing clearly...:thumbdown:

A close up photo of what the flower looks like... When it blooms, it will emit a very sweet smell... My whole house smells of the flower each and everytime it blooms... :thumbup:

Here are some more pics of the plant & flowers... There are still 4 more buds which will bloom tomorrow nite... :tongue_smilie: 1 bloomed last nite, so we had 14 buds altogether... :thumbup1: You can see the buds in some of the pics here... I just find it wonderful... Coz as you can see, the plant looks very messy and plain, but the flower is so beautiful!!! :001_wub: :001_wub:

We call this Pheonix Tail or in hokkien "Hong Boey". It is a kind of cactus plant. People say when it blooms it brings goodluck to the owner. Cuddly you must go buy lottery lah.

Oh i see, Cuddly ! Juz now i shared this thread Vf. my mum- who's anor PLANTS' Luver ! She told me this type of plant got lots of "Pantang Larang". & if it didn't blossom 'll bring Bad Luck wor ? Luckily Urs' Very ONG !!
May i confirm is this plant in Mandarin so-called "昙花“ (Tan Hua) ~ No Wonder U gotta SHOOT PICs @ midnite, coz it only open for about 1 & 1/2, rite???

cudd, how long is the blooming process... from the bud till it fully blooms?... maybe can video cam the whole process?... wahhh... :w00t: :w00t: We normally get to see this in documentaries where they show the flower blooming... a very beautiful sight. :001_smile:
