As responsible citizens, on behalf of the pinkies and the club, we would like to send our deepest condolence to the family of the late Tun Ghafar Baba...He was a simple man, with a pure wish for the people and didnot crave for power or positions. For that, I respect him very much!

For the younger pinkies who don't know him...

- He was a poor village boy who rose to become DPM to Mahathir
- He was humble, rejected state awards and his title was simply "Encik"
- He was bestowed, and accepted the title "Tun" only after he retired from politics
- He mediated the MCA crisis btwn Neo Yee Pan and Tan Koon Swan
- He was even the Acting MCA president during the crisis for about a year!
- He was challenged by Anwar Ibrahim and he humbly stepped down to maintain UMNO stability
- He was very humble and was never shy to say that he came from a poor village family
- He worked as a caddie in his younger days
- He was the longest serving MP for about 50 years!
- He was not proficient in English, if he was, he would have been our PM (many believe)
- I respect him

l believe that most of the young Pinkies here wouldnt remember the now late DPM Tun Ghafar Baba, except maybe in the Malaysian History subject... but l was young enough or rather old enough to remember that he was the DPM to Tun Dr Mahathir back during my schooling days.

It was a shocking news to me when l switched on the radio this morning.....

i heard this news too just now in the tv3 news...sincerely, i really can't remember who he is..but after i heard the news reader talk about his biography and all the thing that he had done for the nation..i really respect him and feel that he is really a great person...Althought he had been offered so many high post, he didn't accept them...He only take the title "Tun" after he retired from politics..:sad:

Exactly, most of you would not know much about Tun Ghafar Baba..and I am glad Sultan of Swings and the TV media had imparted those information about him to you all. He really is an exemplary leader for the young generations like the pinkies here.

He is a clear example of someone who don't need positions or titles in order to serve the public/fan club/whatever.

That day my mum told me he's in hospital...not in a very good condition di..n now he passed away? oh well...i dun really know him either...but may his soul rest in peace...he did contribute alot to the nation...my dad says he's a really humble n nice man....
